Our craftmanship
MORE THAN 10 YEARS OF COMMITMENT TO MOROCCAN CRAFTS
CONSIDERED PROCESS
Craftsmanship helps us build better products. We believe that high quality products require skilled artisans, who are the soul of our brand.
Our suppliers understand our commitment to sustainable accessories and work with us to deliver responsible products. From reduced packaging to improved practices, we’re innovating to improve the sustainability of our products.
To ensure our suppliers use best practice, we keep up to date with the latest global policies. We also require regular testing, auditing and certification by all suppliers to ensure transparency.
CONSIDERED materials
DOUM is inspired by Marrakech, its craftsmanship, its architecture and particurlarly its raw materials.
01 STRAW & RAFFIA
Our bags and accessories are made from natural straw and raffia that has been harvested, stripped and dyed by hand.
We mainly work with raffia and straw a fast-growing grass.
They are natural fibers that, when manufactured for the circular economy and under the right conditions, can safely decompose into the natural environment (soil, water, etc.) without affecting it in a negative way.
02 CANVAS
We only use organic cotton that has been certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) or Textile Exchange’s Organic Content Standard (OCS).
The GOTS certifies cotton fabric made from a minimum of 70% organic fibers, setting detailed environmental and social criteria that must be followed throughout our supply chain and covering everything from processing to dyeing.
03 ECO LEATHER
We use innovative animal- and cruelty-free alternatives that look and feel luxurious and have an environmental impact that is up to 24 times lower than animal leathers. We are constantly striving to improve on that even further by looking for oil-free, plant-based materials.
We are using Alter Nappa for our shoes and bags. This material is a waterborne and solvent-free polyurethane that is less energy and water intensive and is safer for people to work with.
CONSIDERED PEOPLE
All of our raffia products are crafted by hand using time-honored techniques within our rural basketry cooperative in Marrakech, DOUM FOR WOMEN.
Bringing together more than 200 women, DOUM FOR WOMEN is a women’s basketry cooperative whose mission is to integrate rural women from the Douar Touggana, located 20 km from the city center of Marrakech.
Our main goal is to help these women to be financially independent by providing them with a stable income within an ideal work environment.
Our basketry cooperative is the first one in Morocco recognized and certified SEDEX for its social compliance.
